Important to know: we don’t do any needling, and we’re not offering the energy-work side of cupping. This is massage cupping, used as part of your treatment.

What is cupping therapy (massage cupping)?

Cupping is a technique that uses suction cups on the skin to create a gentle lifting effect through the tissues underneath. In a massage setting, it’s often used to support:

  • Releasing stubborn tightness
  • Improving how freely an area moves
  • Reducing that “compressed” feeling through common tight spots
  • Helping your body feel more open and comfortable after treatment

Some people describe it as a deep stretch or a decompression sensation.

How cupping works (and why we combine it with massage)

We use cupping as part of a massage session because it can help create space through tight tissues, which may make it easier to work through restricted areas.

A typical approach might look like this:

  • Start with hands-on massage to warm up the area
  • Use cups to target specific tight zones
  • Finish with massage to settle the tissues and support movement

It’s not about doing more for the sake of it — it’s about choosing the right tools to help you get the most out of your session.

Who cupping therapy may be a great fit for

Cupping can be a great option if you:

  • Sit at a desk and feel tight through neck/shoulders/upper back
  • Do physical work and feel loaded up through back, hips, or legs
  • Train regularly and want support for recovery and mobility
  • Have one or two areas that always feel “stuck”
  • Prefer a targeted approach without needing super aggressive pressure

If you’re not sure whether cupping is right for you, we’ll talk it through first — and we’ll only use it if it suits your body and your goals.

Does cupping hurt?

Cupping shouldn’t feel scary or unbearable.

You might feel a strong pulling sensation, especially on tighter areas — but we can adjust the suction, cup size, and time on the area so it stays comfortable and effective.

You’re always in control. If something doesn’t feel right, we change it.

Cupping marks: why they happen & how long they last

Cupping can leave circular marks. They’re not usually painful, but they can look like bruises.

A few helpful things to know:

  • Marks are a normal response to suction and vary person to person
  • They’re often darker where the area is tighter or more congested
  • They typically fade over a few days (sometimes up to a week)

If you’ve got an event coming up (beach day, photos, wedding), tell us — we can modify the approach or skip cupping.

What to expect in your cupping session at Fullon Life

Before your session
We’ll ask what’s been feeling tight, what you want help with, and whether you’re comfortable with the possibility of marks.

During
Cupping is used only where it’s useful, and often alongside massage. We’ll check in on comfort and adjust as needed.

After
Most people feel lighter and freer through the area. Mild tenderness can happen, especially if the area was very tight.

Aftercare: what to do after cupping therapy

To help your body settle after cupping, many people find it helps to:

  • Drink extra water
  • Keep movement gentle (a walk is great)
  • Avoid heavy training immediately after if the area feels tender
  • Use heat for general tightness (unless we advise otherwise)

We’ll keep aftercare simple and realistic — tailored to your day.

When to avoid cupping (safety & contraindications)

Cupping isn’t for everyone, every day. We may avoid or modify cupping if you:

  • Bruise very easily or are concerned about marks
  • Have very sensitive or irritated skin in the area
  • Are on blood thinners (or have a higher bleeding/bruising risk)
  • Have a medical condition where bruising/skin trauma is a concern

If you’re unsure, just let us know what’s going on — we’ll choose the safest option.

We keep things simple, respectful, and tailored—so you feel comfortable and confident from the start.

1) Quick check-in

We’ll chat about what you’ve been doing lately, what you’d like help with, and what a “good result” looks like for you.

2) Assessment

Depending on what’s going on, we may use basic movement or postural checks to guide the session, or dig in deeper.

3) Treatment

Your session may include a mix of techniques such as deep tissue work, trigger point therapy, or more —based on what suits you best on the day.

4) Simple next steps

If it’s helpful, you’ll leave with a straightforward plan—like suggested booking frequency and a couple of easy self-care pointers you can actually use.
